Obiettivi formativi
The course is meant to take on the forms of narration and montage-techniques in narration. The theme of Nazi-induced genocide has compelled writers among the survivors to work on the verbal tenses of the narration (Primo Levi) or on the times of their life-experience (Jorge Semprun) in order to pass down the essence of the experience itself. Later the theme has become an object of the second generation of witness and has involved capacities like memory and invention; in the age of social networks it has to do with post-truth and untruth. In later readings the emphasis will be put on second generation witnesses and the themes of memory and invention. In the age of social networks we would correlate this to post-truths and untruths.

Programma
Memory, Invention, Post-Truth, True Lies.
The course is focused on how the experience of the Nazi killing camps has produced a deep reflection on the limits of representation in written narrations. We will start with Primo Levi’s narration and reflection: in his narrative he organized his experience under scientific schemes and tried to express the lack of the future-tense in the prisoner’s life. In contrast, Jorge Semprum, a survivor of a concentration camp, used the montage technique of different times to show how experiences change the perception and the narration of the experience itself. The montage technique has also been used by writers who have become second-generation witnesses: G.W. Sebald recounts the investigation into the memory of an adult - the son of a Jewish couple who were killed in the Nazi-camp - who had blocked out a part of his memory. For Javier Cercas, montage-technique is the method used to tell the story about his research on a famous Catalan liar who pretended to be a Nazi-camp survivor.
